One of the most common, and often one of the most marked symptoms of pregnancy tends to be the various changes that take place in the breasts. During the entirety of your pregnancy, including during the second trimester, your breasts are going to go through various changes. Your breasts are preparing for your baby’s arrival, and preparing for their role as your baby’s first source of nourishment.

There are several common breast changes that may take place during the second trimester, whether or not they occurred at all during the first trimester. Your breasts will, during pregnancy, tend to become tender, as well as extremely sensitive. Of course, breast sensitivity tends to be one of the breast changes that takes place earlier than the second trimester, but it is possible that you will first experience this particular breast change during the second trimester. While breast tenderness and sensitivity are one of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, the fact of the matter is that not every woman will experience this particular breast change.

Your breasts will also change during the second trimester in that they will grow and become enlarged. During this process of growth, your nipples can begin to stick out more than what they did before, and the areolas will very likely grow larger during the second trimester as well. As your breast size increases, you may need to invest in a good supportive bra, and will likely increase in your bra size. While not every woman will experience the same breast change in terms of size, it is almost guaranteed that every woman will experience some breast growth.

The final breast change that can take place during the second trimester is the beginning of breast leaking. As early as any time during the second trimester, your breasts may begin to leak a thick, yellowish substance that is called colostrum. Colostrum is the very first breast milk that your baby will consume. This leaking of colostrum can last during the entire rest of the second trimester, and even on through the remainder of pregnancy. Still, not every woman will experience this particular breast change. For some women, breast leakage does not start until some time after their baby is born.
