Second Trimester Body Changes

By : Admin

Pregnancy is, let's face it, a time of dramatic body changes.  This is perfect reasonable, of course, given the fact that in just nine months a whole other person is being put together inside of the woman's body!  This miracle brings with it a variety of changes and developments to a woman's body.   During the second trimester of pregnancy, the body changes tend to be less difficult than the body changes that occur during the first trimester of pregnancy, and they tend to be less severe than the body changes that occur during the third trimester of pregnancy.

One of the biggest second trimester body changes, and the one that most often makes pregnant women very excited, is the fact that, sometime between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy, or about halfway through the second trimester of pregnancy, you will be able to feel your baby move.  At first, these movements inside your body will feel like a fluttering, but they become more and more definite as time passes.

One exciting second trimester body change has to do with morning sickness.  While research suggests that as many as 7 in 10 women experience some form of pregnancy-related nausea, this typically passes by the beginning of the second trimester.  The levels of hormones in your body have begun to level out by the second trimester, and you have also become more accustomed to your sensitive sense of smell.  The combination of these factors helps to curb that nauseous feeling that so many pregnant women have to deal with.

Also during the second trimester your body will begin to change in that you will experience a more steady weight gain.  On the average, a pregnant woman will gain around one half to one pound each week.  Overall in pregnancy, you will probably gain a total of about 25 to 35 pounds.  While most of this weight gain takes place during the third trimester, it does start to increase during the second trimester.  The good news here is that, typically, the weight gain is not so rapid that it makes physical activities difficult.

In terms of body changes, the second trimester is when most women tend to feel the best.  They no longer have to deal with morning sickness.  They aren't too big so as to be uncomfortable.  They get to feel their baby moving for the first time.  Second trimester body changes are, for the most part, happy ones.
