Homeopathic Remedies during Labor

Remember, these remedies are still drugs - and the cause and effects should be discussed with your physician or midwife. Here are some of the more common homeopathic medicines used during labor and delivery:

Pulsatilla
This is a common medicine for helping to turn a breech baby late in pregnancy.

Caulophyllum / Blue Cohosh
Used for strengthening uterine muscles which can help process of labor. This is also used for irregular contractions or weakening of the uterus during labor.

Belladonna and Cimicfuga
Belladonna is used when women exhibit signs of nervousness, agitation and deleriousness. Other symptoms include flushing of the face, mucus membranes and skin which is hot to the touch.

Cimicfuga is used for spasmodic pains and may also be used for those who are intolerant of pain.

Arnica
This drug is used for muscle aches from physical exertion and may also be used to treat shock. This drug is also found to be very valuable in helping to recouperate from the childbirth process.

Staphysagria
If a caesarean or episiotomy becomes necessary, this is used to help the healing process and is given after surgery.

Sulphur
This helps to prevent tearing and stretching of tissues around the bladder and vaginal area.

Calendula Tincture
This also helps to speed up healing process via salve form and applied with a wet sponge.
