The Third Stage of Labor

You will actually deliver your baby and then your placenta during this stage. Congratulations!! You are a new momma! Your labor is almost over. While you are holding your baby in your arms, you will deliver your placenta.

If you had an episiotomy or tore, it will be repaired after the placenta is delivered.

The Dr. will examine the placenta to make sure it is intact and was expelled fully.

This stage will last about 15 to 20 minutes and the contractions are less strong.

You may feel shaky and hungry and rightly so! You have just delivered a miracle of life and it was tough work!

Each pregnancy, expectant mother, and unborn child is different. Your pregnancy may not progress the same as the information found here. The information here is based on the average pregnancy. It's not meant to be a replacement for any advice your may receive from your doctor. If you have any concerns about your pregnancy, we advise you to contact your doctor.
